The Munich Bavaria Student Union visits the IZB

As part of the trainee day, the new employees were able to take a look at the world of biotechnology at the Martinsried campus.

In order to get an impression of the innovation and start-up center on the Martinsried campus, Susanne Simon, Head of Press and Public Relations at the IZB, presented the institutes of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and Biological Intelligence and the Ludwig Maximilian University to the new employees of the student union.

With its more than 500 employees, the “Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern” provides services to around 137,000 students at the universities in Munich, Martinsried, Garching, Freising, Rosenheim, Burghausen, Mühldorf a. Inn, Traunstein and Benediktbeuern. In this way, the organization takes care of the economic, social, health and cultural support of students in Germany.

It is responsible for the economic promotion and social support of students at state universities, in particular by setting up and operating childcare facilities, building and operating student dormitories, operating catering facilities, providing counseling services, and offering facilities in the cultural and social spheres. Within the scope of their tasks, the student unions are to contribute to the promotion of international relations.

In order to get an impression of the innovation and start-up center on the Martinsried campus, Susanne Simon, Head of Press and Public Relations at the IZB, presented the institutes of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and Biological Intelligence and the Ludwig Maximilian University to the new employees of the student union, explained the cooperation with the Munich Hospital in Großhadern and explained why the Faculty Club G2B (Gateway to Biotech) is an important communication center on campus. The guests were also given an overview of the field of activity of the individual start-ups at the IZB.  Munich is a hub for biotechnology. 60 percent of new generations of medicine come from the field of biotechnology and as much as 30 percent of German drugs are developed in the Munich metropolitan region.
