Ulrich Scherbel, CEO AMSilk

Ulrich Scherbel already assumed the position of COO in October 2020. “We are very pleased to welcome Ulrich Scherbel as the new CEO of AMSilk. With his experience in successfully building Freudenberg’s Global Apparel Division, he will fundamentally expand the supply chain and customer base to solidify AMSilk’s leading position as a supplier in the silk biopolymer fiber market. I wish Ulrich every success in his new role,” said Dr. Wolfgang Colberg, Chairman of AMSilk’s Advisory Board. The former CEO, Jens Klein, will remain associated with the company as a brand ambassador. The Advisory Board thanks Klein for his achievements and wishes him all the best and much success in his new role.

“Over the past 6 years, I have had the extraordinary honor of helping AMSilk become one of the world’s leading synthetic biology companies, and it is incredibly rewarding to reflect on what we have accomplished as a team at AMSilk,” said Klein. “I am very proud that we have made our cosmetics division a major player in the global market for the supply of our silk biopolymers. Our biopolymers, even before we brought the division into partnership with Givaudan SA, were used as a key ingredient in millions of personal care and cosmetic products worldwide. I leave AMSilk with full confidence that all the work we have done with companies like Adidas, Airbus and OMEGA has laid the foundation to become a global leader in the biopolymers industry with our Biosteel® fiber division as well. Biosteel® is the first high-performance fiber that combines unlimited industrial scalability with veganity, sustainability and biodegradability,” Klein said.

“Jens Klein has been instrumental in making AMSilk a global leader in the silk biopolymer industry,” said Dr. Wolfgang Colberg, Chairman of AMSilk’s Advisory Board. “He has created a broad range of businesses for AMSilk in fiber, cosmetics and medical devices based on a strong product and customer base. AMSilk is now ready to scale up for additional mass markets,” Colberg added.
