The biotech sector isn’t much different, even though women make up around 50% of students in chemistry, biology and pharmacy.
\nTo encourage women in the IZB network to pursue entrepreneurship and leadership, the IZBrunch at the end of January focused on “Female Leadership in Biotech”. The networking event, moderated by IZB Managing Director Christian Gnam, featured an inspiring keynote by former Bavarian Minister of State and Member of the Bavarian Parliament Kerstin Schreyer, followed by an insightful panel discussion with distinguished female leaders.<\/p>\n

Dr Laura Figulla, CEO and co-founder of mbiomics GmbH, a TechBio company developing innovative biotherapeutic products, has more than 15 years of experience in life sciences and several entrepreneurial ventures. She shared her insights on purpose-driven leadership in the corporate world – and how she does it while raising four children.
\nDr Fei Tian, a healthcare investment expert at MIG Capital, highlighted the structural barriers women face in venture capital and investment. Despite studies showing that women-led start-ups generate higher returns, they still receive significantly less funding than their male counterparts. She emphasised the importance of resilience, strategic networking and challenging existing biases.<\/p>\n

Dr. Gundel Hager, an experienced entrepreneur and former CEO of IZB alumni company Crelux (now part of WuXi AppTec), spoke about the transition from founder to leader. She underlined that team building, conflict management and business growth require adaptability and emotional intelligence. For her, mentoring, risk-taking and focusing on personal strengths are essential to success.<\/p>\n
