With the Planegg municipality agreeing to the contract between the commune, the State of Bavaria, Munich city utilities and the district of Munich, the decisive step has now been taken to build the approximately one kilometer long extension of the U6 from the Grosshadern Clinic to the Martinsried Campus. The ground-breaking ceremony for the around 80 million Euro construction project is expected to take place in the autumn of next year. District Administrator Christoph Göbel anticipates a construction period of around five years. The contract – probably involving establishing a project management company – is the culmination of a hard struggle over many years. The municipality feared they could not maintain support for the building. Now the district of Munich has promised to pay for any deficits. In addition, the municipality will receive lease payments. Distributed over several years, Planegg will face costs of seven to eight million Euro. The future subway station will be between the buildings of the IZB and the Biology Faculty of the LMU.
